Design Process

In the initial design process I used the wine opener as the moving mechanism for a cable stay bridge. I had to reshape the bridge in order for the mechanism to have room to sit. I changed the dowel and gear roller vertically instead of at an angle so it may be easier to lift open and closed. After constructing the structure I added 3 rollers to pull the dowel upward so the gear and handle can lift, opening the bridge. Instead of bracing for the dowel I had added two smaller roller gears for the dowel to stay straight while lifting up and down.
